Molecular Biologist Senior Research Associate

Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States Full-time

Evelo Biosciences is seeking an experienced and talented Molecular Biologist Senior Research Associate to join our growing team

Evelo Biosciences is a fast-paced company discovering drugs based on the previously unexplored biology of the interactions between the gut and the rest of the body.  We are developing a new class of medicines that could change the standard of care of many major diseases for the great benefit of large numbers of patients world-wide.   Monoclonal microbials—single strains of human commensal microbes which use naturally evolved pharmacology to modulate immune responses—engage these disease biologies from the gut, thereby providing effective, convenient, and safe medicines to address the unmet needs patients. As a member of the Evelo team, you will play a vital role in supporting our efforts in developing this new modality of medicine.

We are seeking an agile, skilled molecular biologist at the Senior Research Associate level who is interested in joining a highly dynamic and intellectually challenging work environment. This candidate will work in a matrixed environment, contributing to both Immuno-Oncology and Innovation & Technology efforts by implementing their knowledge of genetic engineering to progress our pipeline and interrogate novel biology.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Performing DNA/RNA isolation and subsequent analysis including RNA Sequencing, Nanostring and similar platforms
  • Applying molecular and cell biology techniques to design and generate transient and stable cells/ cell-lines using CRISPR and viral transduction.
  • Independently confirming gene expression via quantitative RT-PCR
  • Working knowledge of protein chemistry to assist in design, generation or troubleshooting of proteins and/ or molecular constructs
  • Support the generation of protein, other biomolecules, and cell-lines using expertise in biochemistry and molecular biology
  • Validate proteins, biomolecules, and cell-lines with biochemical and other functional assays.
  • Experience working at the interface between microbial cellular component engineering and biology
  • Multi-tasking, experiment design, execution and analysis

Experience and Education:

  • MS degree or >5 years of experience in Molecular & Cell Biology

Desired skills and capabilities:

  • Experience CRISPR, lentivirus, and other recombinant techniques required
  • Experience in cell-line and primary cell engineering for in vitro and in vivo functional assays.
  • Experience in the generation protein antigens and siRNA is highly desired
  • Immunology experience a plus
  • Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary discovery team
  • Excellent oral, written and organizational skills

About Evelo Biosciences

Evelo Biosciences, Inc. is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing a new modality of medicine, monoclonal microbials, which are designed to act on the gut-body network. Evelo’s product candidates are orally-delivered, single strains of microbes, selected for their defined pharmacological properties. They are intended to modulate systemic immunology and biology by acting on multiple naturally evolved biological pathways through the gut-body network. Evelo believes that monoclonal microbials have the potential to be broadly applicable across many diseases including immunoinflammatory, cancer, autoimmune, metabolic, neurological and neuroinflammatory diseases.

Evelo currently has three product candidates, EDP1066 and EDP1815 for the treatment of inflammatory diseases and EDP1503 for the treatment of cancer, for which ten clinical readouts are expected during 2019 and 2020. Evelo is also advancing additional candidates through preclinical development in other disease areas.
