Senior Research Associate - In Vivo Pharmacology

Evelo Biosciences is seeking an experienced Senior Research Associate-Pharmacology to join our growing team.

Evelo Biosciences is a fast-paced company discovering drugs based on the previously unexplored biology of the interactions between the gut and the rest of the body: gut-body network.  We are developing a new class of medicines that could change the standard of care of many major diseases for the great benefit of large numbers of patients worldwide.  These medicines are designed to act on the gut-body network – monoclonal microbials. They are single strains of human commensal microbes which use naturally evolved pharmacology to work in the gut for effects throughout the body, providing effective, convenient and safe medicines to address the unmet needs of huge numbers of patients.

 We are seeking a talented and dedicated Senior Research Associate who is interested in joining a highly dynamic and intellectually challenging team of drug discoverers and developers. This role will provide an exciting opportunity to contribute to the new and rapidly developing field of microbiome research and therapy and be part of a dynamic startup with tremendous growth potential. The successful candidate will possess hands-on experience in performing in vivo studies using laboratory mice, dosing and collection of a variety of tissues and organs after euthanasia. In addition, s/he will be also having proven experience with a variety of ex vivo sample processing and analysis techniques, including preparation of samples for flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry as well as DNA and RNA extraction. 

Primary responsibilities: 

  • Partner with in vivo pharmacology team to design and conduct in vivostudies at vivarium
  • Process samples for ex vivo analysis
  • Identify new and cutting-edge models of inflammation, oncology, or other diseases of interest

Desired capabilities, skills and experience

  • Oral, intraperitoneal, intravenous, intramuscular and intradermal routes of test article administration
  • Euthanasia according to IACUC-approved protocol
  • Demonstrated understanding of mouse anatomy
  • Collection of blood and organs using aseptic techniques
  • Sample preparation for flow cytometry (dissociation of tissues, staining of cells)
  • Sample preparation for immunohistochemistry (FFPE and frozen)
  • DNA and RNA extraction from tissues and feces
  • Experience with orthotopic and metastatic tumor models and relevant imaging techniques is a plus
  • Highly motivated and results driven individual with a passion for working in a fast-paced and evolving organization
  • Strong oral and written communication as well as excellent collaboration & interpersonal capabilities
  • Experience partnering with CROs and outsourcing studies a plus
  • Outstanding team player with ability to work effectively in groups as well as independently

Education and work experience: 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biological sciences or related field 
  • Minimum of two to three years’ experience in a similar role
